We are all born with beautiful skin, but over time our skin begins to show some wear and tear. You can keep that beautiful and silky smooth skin you were born with by following the tips below.

Cover Up

The sun can be very damaging to your skin. It can cause premature wrinkles, burns which can lead to scarring, and brown sun spots. Keep yourself covered when in the sun whenever possible. Wear loose fitting clothing, long sleeves, and long pants, as well as a hat and sunglasses. Be sure to use sunscreen on any exposed skin. Be sure to use SPF 30 or higher and check that it is a broad spectrum sunscreen, which means it will protect you from UVA and UVB rays. Try and avoid going outdoors between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., when the suns rays are strongest.

Quit Smoking

If you've never started, don't start. If you currently smoke, stop now. Smoking can cause several health issues such as emphysema, cancer, and asthma. It can also cause premature wrinkles on your skin. It can deplete your skin of oxygen and the nutrients your skin needs to keep it looking healthy. Smoking can also cause wrinkling around your lips, from the constant inhaling on a cigarette.

Maintain A Healthy Diet

What you put into your mouth can affect your skin, in addition to the other parts of your body. Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables such as leafy vegetables and fruits high in antioxidants--like blueberries; eat lean proteins like fish and chicken and drink plenty of water. Try and limit your caffeine and sugar intake, which includes carbohydrates.

Use Gentle Skin Care Products

Look for skin care products that have natural ingredients in them, or use things around your home to make your own. Use moisturizers with milk and yogurt in them to help even out skin tone. Use oatmeal exfoliators to help remove dead skin cells gently, without causing injury to your skin. Cucumber and milk will help soothe sunburns, and sugar and water make a nice scrub for your lips. Invest in private label skin care products to get the best ingredients for your skin.

Be sure to take time for yourself, as stresses in your daily life, as well as lack of sleep can be damaging to your skin. It can cause premature wrinkles and even acne. Adults aged 18 - 64 years old should get between 7-9 hours of sleep per night according to the National Sleep Foundation. Be gentle with your skin and treat it right with the tips above. The results will give you beautiful, healthy glowing skin.
