If your hair loss is bothering you, then you may want to consider doing something about it. Your dermatologist will be able to help you out a great deal with this because this is something that they specialize in. The key is to go into the dermatologist early before it gets worse so that they can begin to help reverse your hair loss right away. Sometimes hair loss can be improved with topical or ingested medications, but other times surgical procedures are the best way to go. This article will discuss 3 procedures that a dermatologist (such as one from American Dermatology) may recommend if you are suffering from hair loss.

Hair Transplantation

If there is a certain area on your scalp that simply will no longer grow hair, then you may benefit from a hair transplantation. During a hair transplantation, the follicles from one area of your scalp where you have hair in abundance will be moved to another area on your scalp where the hair is not growing in. If all goes well, these hair follicles will take to the new area of skin, and will begin to grow. It will likely take several months, and may even take a few procedures before your hair really starts to fill in, but if thing go well, you will have hair growing in this area once again.

Scalp Reduction

Another way to help your hair to grow in where you are balding is to remove the area of the scalp where the doesn't hair grow in well. In order to do this, the area that is balding will first need to be removed. Once it is removed, the scalp that has an abundance of hair follicles will then be pulled forward to cover the area where your scalp was removed. Over time, this skin will graft into place, and will feel just as if it was your normal skin. Hair will continue to grow on the scalp that was put in place, and your bald spot will be no more.

Scalp Expansion

If you get a scalp expansion, you will have the entirety of your scalp expanded. In order to do this, a stretching device will be placed under the skin of your scalp where the hair is thick and full. This device will then remain under your skin for 3-4 weeks. The point of this is to stretch out the area of your scalp where the hair grows in well so that it can fill the area of your head where you were originally balding.
