For some women, the challenge of what to do with your hair can come as frequently as every six months. Should you cut it or let it grow out? Would a new color look good on you, or would your natural color be more appealing? If you do cut your hair, how many inches should you go? What styles are popular right now?

Fortunately for you, not all of these questions need to be answered by what is popular at the moment. Sometimes your own body is making suggestions that, if followed, will result in a hair cut that you are crazy about. There are several different factors that could contribute to one's ideal cut. Hair cutting doesn't have to be all guess work.

Face Shape

Oval: This face is long and narrow with the chin being slightly skinnier than the hairline. Oval face shapes do best with shoulder-length cuts and slicked back hairstyles.

Circle: A circle face is someone whose features are soft and close together, with the width and length of the face being similar. These face shapes can pull off short hairdos and textured bobs.

Square: A square face is similar to a circle face, only with very strong jawline. Square faces should look for softer hair styles including side bangs, or long hair with layers.

Long: A long face is similar to an oval face, but with a longer chin. One of the best hairstyles for this face shape is a longer cut with long layers.

Heart: A heart-shaped face is one where the hairline is the widest part of the face, and then the face comes to a point with a delicate chin. Shoulder-length cuts look great with this face shape, and a nice wide forehead leaves plenty of room for some killer bangs.

Body Shape

Slim: Those with slim, straight bodies may want to try and add some curves with a great cut. Medium to longer hairstyles with plenty of layers can do the trick.

Curvy: Curvy body types should avoid very short hairstyles that can give them an off-balance look. A medium-length cut may be able to offer some fun style options.

Petite: A petite person can handle the challenge of a short hairdo. Sleek bobs and pixie cuts often look great.

Athletic: While many athletes prefer long hair that can be thrown into a pony tail, medium-length hair with lots of body may be just what you are looking for.
