Is your hair looking a bit rough and ragged? Maybe you damaged it by flat ironing it too often, or perhaps it is acting up due to the dry, cold air. In either case, you might be tempted to visit a salon for expensive keratin treatments to smooth things out again. These work very well, but they can also be pretty pricey. Here are some options for more affordable hair treatments that will soon have you looking sleek and smooth again.

1. Deep Conditioners

The most affordable treatment for rough-textured hair is often a deep conditioner. This type of conditioner contains more moisture-rich ingredients than the conditioners you would use on your hair every day. Common ingredients include vitamin E, shea butter, and various amino acids. You can sometimes buy deep conditioner in single-use pouches, so you can purchase just what you need for a couple of treatments. Follow the instructions on the package to use the product. Usually, you'll apply the conditioner to wet hair, let it sit for anywhere from five to 20 minutes, and then rinse it out. You can repeat this every couple of days for a week or two, and in the end, your hair will be so much more moist.

2. Benonite Clay Mask

You may have heard of benonite clay masks being used as a facial treatment. It is also a good mask to use on really dry, rough hair. The clay will impact minerals and vitamins into the hair shaft, helping to smooth it out. Some salons offer benonite clay hair treatments, and you can also buy them over the counter to use at home. You'll apply the clay to damp hair; it will feel gloppy and be a bit messy, so you might want to sit in a bath while it works its magic for about 20 minutes. Rinse it out, and shampoo your hair gently with a mild shampoo to remove any lingering residue.

3. Coconut Oil

If you prefer to go the all-natural route, you can give your hair a good, old-fashioned oil treatment. Warm some coconut oil just enough that it becomes a liquid. Work about a teaspoon of it into your hair, starting at the ends and working your way towards the roots. Let it sit for about an hour. Then, give yourself a good shampoo to remove the oily residue. Just enough of the coconut oil will remain to keep your hair nice and smooth. You can't find a cheaper remedy for rough hair!
